ABSTRACT
Although several aspects of emotion/mood seem to be intact in schizophrenia, there is emerging evidence that patients show an impaired ability to adaptively regulate their affective states. We investigated the relationships among schizophrenia, mood/emotion regulation. Participants comprised 50 schizophrenia patients and 48 healthy subjects who were tested on different questionnaires measuring emotion and mood regulation strategies. In experiment we examined also the ability of schizophrenic and healthy individuals to regulate their mood using emotional version of lexical decision task by manipulating mood states. Although patients are generally more likely than normal participants to use downward mood/emotion regulation, it doesn’t mean that they don’t use adaptive strategies leading to positive affective states.
